Sony Confirms Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5, but No Console Exclusivity

Gamers everywhere were excited to learn that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available on PlayStation 5 along with the PC version on August 31st, 2023. However, some were concerned that Sony had paid for console exclusivity, meaning that it wouldn’t be available on Xbox Series X|S. But according to a PR representative from Larian Studios, this is not the case.

No Exclusivity Tied to Launch

Push Square reports that a PR representative from Larian Studios has confirmed that there is no exclusivity tied to the game’s launch. The developer is currently planning to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC, Mac, GeForce NOW, and PS5. However, the studio will announce support for additional platforms if and when they are ready.

Early Access and Full Debut

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access on PC for some time, and the full debut on both the PC and PS5 is set for August 31st, 2023. As of now, Larian Studios appears free to release the game on competing platforms. But what about Xbox?

No Xbox Version in the Works

According to Eurogamer, Larian Studios has not given exclusivity to Sony, but they just don’t have an Xbox version in the works. Larian Studios stated that they plan to release the game on PC, Mac, GeForce NOW, and PS5. But they have no exclusivity and will announce support for additional platforms if and when they’re ready.

Not Playing the Exclusivity Game

Back in 2019, Larian Studios stated that they would not “participate in the exclusivity game” when questions were raised about its then-planned launch on Google Stadia. Four years later, it appears they are sticking to their word. Larian Studios is not playing the exclusivity game, and it’s up to them to decide when and where Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available.

Sony has no console exclusivity over Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios plans to release the game on PC, Mac, GeForce NOW, and PS5, but they have no exclusivity and will announce support for additional platforms if and when they’re ready. So, for now, it appears that Xbox gamers will have to wait to get their hands on Baldur’s Gate 3.
