The Caligula Effect: Overdose Announcement Trailer PS5 Version

NIS America has officially announced the release of The Caligula Effect: Overdose for the PlayStation 5 this year. The Caligula Effect: Overdose is a role-playing video game developed by Historia and published by NIS America, and it is a remake of the 2017 game developed by Aquria. The game was originally released in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose boasts enhanced graphics and gameplay, a new playable female protagonist, additional endings, and more supporting characters. It is set in the idyllic world of Mobius, where humans exist in blissful ignorance as they relive their high school years under the watchful eye of the intelligent vocaloid program μ (Mu). However, a group of students, known as the Go-Home Club, soon realize that not everything in Mobius is as it seems, so they must fight to break free and return to the real world.

In The Caligula Effect: Overdose, players will engage in turn-based combat in dungeon settings, with combats triggered upon encountering enemies while exploring the dungeon. Each party may have a maximum of four playable characters, and there are nine key characters that players may recruit in their party as the story unfolds. After attaining level 2 or higher association, players may recruit NPCs into their group. Each party member may chain three commands together every turn and see the effect before initiating. Interacting with other NPCs allows players to raise association. However, some NPCs cannot be accessed unless a certain amount of NPC association is reached.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose PS5 version is available for pre-order at the NIS America Online Store, and those who pre-order will receive a set of 5 Exclusive Art Card Bonus.

The original game, The Caligula Effect, was released on the Vita worldwide. Later, the Overdose version appeared with additional content, allowing players to choose the gender of their avatar and take part in an Ostinato Musicians arc that let them fight alongside the enemies. The remake launched for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in North America in March 2019.

The Caligula Effect 2 sequel game was also released in October 2021 for Switch and PS4 in North America and Europe. It features Japanese audio with English text and shipped for PS4 and Switch in Japan in June 2021.

The Caligula television anime adaptation premiered in Japan in April 2018, and Crunchyroll streamed the 12-episode series as it aired in Japan. Discotek Media licensed the anime and released it on Blu-ray Disc in August.
