Ant-Man 3 Writer Defends Film Despite Negative Reviews and Low Scores

Jeff Loveness Believes Critics Are Wrong About Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third installment in the Ant-Man franchise, has been receiving lukewarm reviews since its release. The film’s screenwriter, Jeff Loveness, recently spoke about the negative reception and stated that he believes the Marvel Studios film is better than critics give it credit for.

The movie’s critical score on Rotten Tomatoes currently sits at 48%, making it the second-lowest rated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, with only Eternals scoring lower at 47%. However, Loveness defended the movie in an interview with The Daily Beast, saying that the reviews took him by surprise and left him feeling despondent. He admitted that he was proud of what he wrote for Jonathan Majors and Michelle Pfeiffer’s characters and believed it was “good stuff.”

Despite the negative reviews, Loveness eventually felt better about the film after attending a screening with fans who seemed to be enjoying themselves. He also praised the performance of Majors as Kang and Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, who he felt were the emotional centers of the film.

Ant-Man 3 Screenwriter Defends Film Despite Negative Reviews

The appearance of MODOK, Corey Stoll’s giant floating-headed villain, was a point of criticism from both fans and critics. However, Loveness defended the character and proclaimed, “No, [the reviews] are wrong! I’m right! MODOK is great!” Loveness admitted that the ordeal taught him to take a punch, and he believes that criticism always helps a writer grow and learn.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania marks Loveness’ feature film writing debut, with previous writing credits on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Rick and Morty, and assorted Marvel comics. He is currently working on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will likely face similar scrutiny upon release.

In the meantime, fans can catch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in theaters now, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set to arrive on May 5. For those looking to stay up to date on the MCU, be sure to check out our guides to Marvel Phase 5 and Marvel Phase 6.

While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may have received low scores and negative reviews, Jeff Loveness believes the film has much to offer and encourages fans to watch it for themselves.
